Brief on Mental Health Forum

MONTH OF MAY – HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH

On 1st May, 2026

Venue: Regional Centre for Mapping of Resources for Development (RCMRD),
Kasarani.

HHCK in collaboration with Project Management Institute (PMI) is organizing for a mental health forum in Nairobi. Under the theme “Building Men, Changing Communities.”

This upcoming forum in Nairobi will be the 3rd Edition, following previous successful engagements in Vipingo and Migori. These forums demonstrated the powerful impact of open dialogue, peer support, and community-driven engagement in addressing men’s mental health challenges. This forum builds on the success of these previous editions.

Objectives of the Forum:

  1. To raise awareness on mental health challenges affecting men
  2. To promote open dialogue and reduce stigma around men’s mental health
  3. To equip participants with coping strategies and psychosocial support tools
  4. To foster economic empowerment as a pathway to mental wellness
  5. To strengthen partnerships for sustainable mental health programming

Why men? Men are especially affected by untreated mental health challenges, largely due to social stigma, economic pressures, and limited access to early psychosocial support.  Despite growing awareness, many men continue to suffer in silence due to stigma, societal expectations, and lack of accessible support systems.

“Strong families begin with healthy men”

“When men are supported, communities become stronger, healthier, and more resilient.”

Why Nairobi? – is a home for over 4.5 million people is faced with a high burden of mental health challenges driven by urban stressors such as unemployment and high living costs. The county is also experiencing rising cases of depression, anxiety, substance abuse, and suicide, yet access to mental health services remains limited due to stigma and a shortage of professionals.

Mental health remains a critical yet under-addressed issue among men, often leading to severe social and economic consequences. By partnering with HHCK, your organization will contribute to building healthier communities, advancing well-being, and supporting sustainable development outcomes.
